Jason Cooper is an archivist at NOAA NCEI. Among his many varied tasks, Jason manages the vast physical archives in Asheville, develops archive policy, and works with other NESDIS offices on archive projects. He led development of the NCEI weather and climate retention schedule and contributed to the development of the NOAA Data Strategy.

During FY23, Jason is on temporary assignment as a Senior Policy Advisor in the NOAA Office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO), developing the NOAA Open Data Policy as well as consistent guidance across the agency for best practices, checklists, and dashboards to track adherence to open science principles, policies and mandates across the enterprise, while still supporting NOAA’s distributed culture of data and science.
